Areal Flood Warning General or areal flooding of streets, low-lying areas, urban storm drains, creeks, and small streams is occurring, imminent, or highly likely. Weather conditions can be closely tied with health-related pains and outdoor activities. They use statistical models that incorporate USGS streamflow data to try to predict the results of expected storms. A flood watch advisory indicates the possibility of a flood but does not guarantee flooding will occur. Web Portal Changes: The Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) hosted at will be replaced by the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS), with a target of March 2024.Knowledge about the type of storm producing the moisture, such as duration, intensity and areal extent, which can be valuable for determining possible severity of the flooding.The rate of change in river stage on a real-time basis, which can help indicate the severity and immediacy of the threat.
